As an IT professional, you manage the impact that your computer has on the environment and save money. Here are seven simple tips:
1. Replace your old computer with a laptop. Laptops use less power than a desktop and you can take them anywhere.
2. Use Virtualization Software instead of setting up an additional computer. Virtualization saves you space, maintenance and power consumption of an additional computer.
3. Print on both sides of the paper. Printing on both sides reduces the amount of paper you go through. You may be able to cut your paper costs by 50%.
4. Lower the brightness of your monitor. The higher it is, the more energy it consumes. By lowering the brightness, you save energy and reduce the strain on your eyes too.
5. Turn off your computer when you are not using it. You may have heard that it is bad to turn your computer off. Newer computers can handle you turning them off. By turning your computer off, you help reduce wear and heat stress on the system.
6. Turn on Power Management Features. Power management settings help you to manage the power consumption that your computer uses. Choose the settings that work best for your needs.
7. Turn off screen savers. Screens savers do not reduce the energy consumption your computer uses.
Bonus Tip: Recycle old computers. Dell and Apple have recycling programs when you purchase a new computer. BestBuy also recycles electronics.
I was watching out the classroom window at the traffic tie-ups due to on going construction projects, and thinking about the planning needed to pull it off. Hiring all the needed crews and coordinating them to arrive to do their work; completing that work on-time and to specification is quite a feat. Think about it, you have to survey the land, plan for traffic flow throughout the project, figure out how long each part of the work is going to take, so you can have all the materials and manpower there when you need them.
Your education here at PC ProSchools is similar to that highway project. We have surveyed the route needed to gain Microsoft Certification, and figured out how much time will be needed to complete each stage. As for the manpower, that’s where you come in. You have to be that worker that puts in the daily effort to complete each stage so the project can be complete successfully. That success will be your highway to a new career in IT.
