Why use a Forum?
Forums began as electronic bulletin boards before the internet. They allow people to post messages on a specific topic and comment on messages posted by others. You can follow a conversation about a specific topic. Forums don’t require that you are online to receive an answer to your question like chat rooms or instant messaging does. Sometimes, you’ll have to wait to get an answer to your question.
Why should you use a forum?
- You can choose which topics to participate in. A forum has many topics to choose from. You can pick the topic that interests you and participate in the conversation.
- You can get useful ideas from other members. Forums can help you solve a problem, learn a new solution and see that you are not the only person having this problem. Other forum members can provide you with tips that can help you to solve your problem. You can also use forums to learn about new technology or issues.
- You can build credibility. When you participate in a forum, you can build a reputation as an expert. Over time, the other members may come to you for help. It also helps you to build your help desk skills by explaining topics in writing.
- You can make new friends. As you participate in a forum, you will meet new people.
- You can find encouragement. Your fellow members can encourage you to keep learning and attempting to solve your problem.
The Internet has forums on many subjects from aardvark to Zen. You can find forums on information technology like Microsoft’s TechNet or Warcraft. At PC ProSchools, we have our Student Forum. The Student Forum is designed to be a resource for our students. It has topics relating to your coursework. You can learn from our instructors and your fellow students. Use the PC ProSchools Student Forum to learn what problems and questions students have had and their solutions.
